Root Canal

What is a root canal?

A root canal is one of the most common dental procedures performed, well over 14 million every year. This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need of dental implants or bridges.

At the center of your tooth is pulp. Pulp is a collection of blood vessels that helps to build the surrounding tooth. Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures. Symptoms of the infection can be identified as visible injury or swelling of the tooth, sensitivity to temperature or pain in the tooth and gums.

If you experience any of these symptoms, your dentist will most likely recommend non-surgical treatment to eliminate the diseased pulp. This injured pulp is removed and the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned and sealed. This therapy usually involves local anesthesia and may be completed in one or more visits depending on the treatment required. Success for this type of treatment occurs in about 90% of cases. If your tooth is not amenable to endodontic treatment or the chance of success is unfavorable, you will be informed at the time of consultation or when a complication becomes evident during or after treatment. We use local anesthesia to eliminate discomfort. You will be able to drive home after your treatment, and you probably will be comfortable returning to your normal routine.

What happens after root canal treatment?

When your root canal therapy has been completed, a record of your treatment will be sent to your restorative dentist. You should contact their office for a follow-up restoration within a few weeks of completion at our office. Your restorative dentist will decide on what type of restoration is necessary to protect your tooth. It is rare for endodontic patients to experience complications after routine endodontic treatment or microsurgery. If a problem does occur, however, we are available at all times to respond. To prevent further decay, continue to practice good dental hygiene.

How much will a root canal cost?

The cost associated with this procedure can vary depending on factors such as the severity of damage to the affected tooth and which tooth is affected. In general, endodontic treatment is much less expensive than tooth removal and replacement with an artificial tooth.

This was an emergency referral and I was in so much pain. the staff were very courteous and Dr Newcomb was great. He calmly explained what he needed to do and the procedure was not painful and really less bothersome than getting a filling. Thank you for assuaging my fears in such a caring manner.

Dr. Newcomb and the staff at Clear Creek Endodontics provided professional, near painless, and specialized treatment for a recent root canal treatment my dentist recommended. The Clear Creek Endodontics office and dental teams were friendly, well trained, and helped me complete all the necessary medical paper work. This is the second endodontic treatment I have needed in the last three years and I am thankful for their dedicated service and convenient location.

I had gone to the dentist who spotted a problem in an old root canal and recommended Clear Creek Endo. I got in really soon for a consultation and Dr. Ryan Stratton explained the problem to me. When I came in for the treatment, I was really scared, since it was a failed root canal someone else had done and was not sure what was involved. Seems like I have curved roots and the prior doc didn't even get all the roots done and there was infection. Ryan explained what he was going to do and proceeded in giving me the best numbing shot I have ever had. Absolutely no pain involved at all! They explained aftercare very well and I am confident the issue has been resolved. If I ever have to have another root canal or anyone I care about has to have one, I will recommend Clear Creek Endo and I know I will not go anywhere else! His dental assistant and Dr. Stratton work so well together, I was really impressed. Great team! Thank you.

I had my first root canal in March 2015 and Dr Stratton took care of me, I was very impressed with the care and staff. I have never had good experiences when it comes to teeth, and was very nervous to have a root canal but Dr Stratton was amazing. I had to have another one today and it went very smooth. The compassion, and caring by all the staff is amazing. I would recommend Dr Stratton in a heart beat. He is awesome!!

I have had great experiences with Dr. Newcomb. I will continue to use Clear Creek for any endodontic need in the future! He performed two root canals in half the time/pain it took from a regular dentist and repaired one where a dentist had painfully missed two roots. He's also an expert at giving the initial numbing shots!! Just knowing this reduces my stress about the procedures. Two thumbs up and five stars!!!

I've never had a root canal and was very nervous. Dr. John and his staff put my fear at ease. I'm 18 weeks pregnant and was very worried but there was nothing to worry about. I would recommend anyone to Dr. John and his staff. I had my consult and root canal all in the same day. I felt like I was in very good hands and I'm very thankful they were able to treat me. Thank you!
